Permanent Water Saving Measures

Permanent water saving measures now apply across Victoria when water restrictions aren't in place. Find out about the six measures below.

Trigger nozzles on hoses

A hand-held hose must be fitted with a trigger nozzle and can be used to wash your car and water your gardens and lawns at any time.

Manual watering systems

This inlcudes any system that is turned off by hand. They can only be used to water gardens and lawns between 8pm-10am.

Automatic watering systems

These systems are set to turn on and off automatically. They can only be used to water gardens and lawns between 10pm-10am. A rain or soilmoisture sensor must be fitted to all new systems installed from September 1, 2006

Paved areas

Hosing down driveways, paths, concrete and other paved areas is not permitted, except in cases of emergency.

New pools

Before filling a new pool or spa with a capacity of 2,000 litres or more, owners must submit a plan and have it approved by Barwon Water. This plan must show how the volume of water required to fill the pool or spa will be, or has been, offset by water saved around the home.

Business

Non-residential customers who use more than 10ML per annum of potable (drinking) water from an urban supply are required to develop a water management action plan (waterMAP). Conact your local water provider to find out more.
