Photographic Award - Primary Schools

The photographic award is designed to recognise creative digital talent by capturing water conservation imagery as the key focus. What’s your lens been capturing? Such imagery will be used in water saving campaigns across Australia.

Congratulations to our winner, Hannah Mossop (Primary)

WINNER (Primary) – Hannah Mossop

‘Precious’ by Hannah Mossop, Bacchus Marsh Primary School‘Precious’ by Hannah Mossop, Bacchus Marsh Primary School

Judges’ comment: This is an image with a message; "we hold the future of our water supply in our hands". The cupped hands hang on to the previously clean water and there is implied care for the water in the way it is held. It is a well-made and uncomplicated metaphorical image illustrating the preciousness of water.

2ND PLACE (Primary) – Hamish Aitken

‘Claypan’ by Hamish Aitken - Narrawong Primary School‘Claypan’ by Hamish Aitken - Narrawong Primary School

Judges’ comment: This dried out river bed, where water once lay, brings a stark reality to the drought in which we find ourselves. The presence of a child and father brings scale to the image; both in the visual context of the size of the area where the water once lay, and in the consequences that will be passed to the younger generation if we don’t conserve water - the present and the future

3RD PLACE (Primary) – Middle Harbour Public School

‘Green Team Water Warriors’ by Middle Harbour Public School's Green Team‘Green Team Water Warriors’ by Middle Harbour Public School's Green Team

Judges’ comment: A delightful portrait of this group of children taking pride in their rainwater tank, obviously proud of it and aware of the importance of the water it contains. Their youth and happiness convey an image of hope for the future.

FINALIST (Primary) – Louis Abe and Taine Baldwin

Judges’ comment (Louis Abe): An image symbolic of the importance of saving every last drop of water.

Judges’ comment (Taine Baldwin): Buckets, crates and containers have all been put to good use here in the capture of rainwater. This is a colourful image with the message of using whatever containers we have to catch our rainwater.
