Museum Victoria

With a knack for creating transformative learning experiences, Museum Victoria engaged more than 10,000 visitors at its Water Smart Home exhibition during National Water Week 2004.

The internationally acclaimed exhibition stimulates the public to rethink the way it uses water on a daily basis and gives the information necessary to explore and implement sustainable water use practices at home.

Meanwhile, the Museum was also ‘walking the walk’ by undergoing its own water-efficiency and conservation audit at all four campuses. As a result, flow restriction valves were changed on all toilets at the Museum to conserve seven million litres of water per year. These valves, plus flow restrictors for hand-basin taps, are being installed across all sites, to reduce total water use from 90ML a year to 81ML.

“Museum Victoria is committed to actively promoting sensitive, responsible and smart water use,” says Liza Dale-Hallett (Senior Curator, Sustainable Futures) Museum Victoria. “This priority extends from our educational programs, events, exhibits and websites, to the Museum itself undertaking a water audit, developing a water management plan and becoming a partner in the Watermark Australia program.”

Museum Victoria’s educational programs reach approximately 4.8 million people per year.
