Since launching its ‘Presentation Toolbox Kit’ in March 2004, St Kilda’s Education Image has equipped 1,875 students across 30 primary schools in Melbourne’s west with water-saving knowledge.

The free, hands-on presentation allows students to explore and discuss ways to save water and why it’s important.

With help from Western Water, Education Image has delivered its program to primary schools in Sunbury, Melton, Bacchus March, Gisborne, Riddell’s Creek, Macedon, Woodend, Romsey and Lancefield.

“Instilling the values of environmental sustainability in young children helps them become water wise for life,” says Mr Greg Day, Director Education Image. “If every student applied the knowledge learnt in the Presentation Toolbox Kit, their household could save around 20 per cent of the annual water use of an average Melbourne household.”

In the program, trained educators use local issues and examples to stimulate discussion about topics such as the water cycle, preventing water pollution and grey water use. Students learn simple water-saving tips and techniques that can be implemented at school and around the home.
