Coca Cola Amatil (Aust) Pty Ltd

Both town water and trade waste water volumes are being reduced by more than 41ML a year at Coca-Cola Amatil’s Moorabbin bottling plant – that’s equivalent to 41 Olympic sized swimming pools.

“Four water saving projects have been completed so far this year to bring the organisation into world-class water efficiency within the Coca-Cola system,” says Mr Patrick Mitchell, Operations Manager Victoria, Coca-Cola Amatil. “Both management and shopfloor personnel were directly involved in the development of processes and associated trials.”

Reclamation of rinser water will save the company more than 30ML of water per year, by treating and redirecting water (that was previously discharged as trade waste) to the Water Treatment Plant where it’s blended with town water.

By replacing wet conveyor lube with dry lube, 915 litres of water are saved per line operational hour, almost 8ML annually.

Other projects such as improved management of water filter backwashing frequency will result in water savings of 1.4ML per annum, while the installation of a waterless urinal system will save a further 1ML each year.
