Rebates & incentives

Here's a list of rebate and incentive schemes to help you financially while you help the environment. It includes information on rebates for water tanks and other water saving products.

National Programs

  • Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
    Applicable to the installation of certain solar hot water systems in certain circumstances. Many states and territories provide supplementary schemes to cover circumstances exempt under this scheme.
  • Solar hot water rebate scheme
    The Australian Government is offering rebates of $1000 to eligible households for the installation of solar hot water systems.
  • National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative
    Rebates of up to $500 for the purchase and installation of a new rainwater tank or a greywater treatment system
  • Federal grants & funding for water
    Includes grants for sustainable rural water use, major stormwater & resuse works and grants for surf-lifesaving clubs to save water.

State & Territory Programs


Victoria


New South Wales

  • NSW Rainwater Tank Rebate
    The NSW government is offering a rebate to help households who install a rainwater tank with a capacity larger than 2,000L. There is an additional rebate for connecting the tank to the toilet or washing machine. The offer is only for existing homes.
  • NSW Washing Machine Rebate
    If you install a 5 star WELS rated washing machine between 15 January 2010 and 30 June 2010 in NSW, you may be eligable for a $150 rebate from the Department of Environment and Climate Change
  • Sydney Water's Toilet Replacement Program
    Sydney Water provides a toilet upgrade service to replace single flushes with 4 star water efficient dual flush toilets for customers in their region.
  • NSW Dual Flush Toilet Rebate
    Residents in NSW are eligible for a $200 rebate when they upgrade from a single flush to a 4 star dual flush toilet. This rebate is not available for residents who use the Sydney Water toilet replacement service.

ACT


Queensland

The Queensland Government's Home and Garden WaterWise rebates have ended, while ClimateSmart continues to offer rebates & grants for items like solar hot water systems.  Other rebates may be available through local councils.  


South Australia

  • Rainwater Tank Rebates
    The South Australian Government has announced a new rainwater tank plumbing rebate scheme. Rebates of up to $1000 are being offered to plumb new or existing rainwater tanks into existing homes.
  • Solar Hot Water Rebate Scheme
    Provided by the Energy Division of South Australia's Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure
  • Washing Machine Rebate
    Up to $200 rebates are available to South Australian residents who purchase a 4 star water efficient washing machine.
  • Home Rebates
    Rebates available on a number of different water efficient products around the home including showerheads, dual flush toilets, garden goods and water audits.

Western Australia

  • Waterwise Rebate Program
    This comprehensive rebate scheme offers rebates for garden irrigation products, swimming pool covers, rainwater tanks, flow regulators, washing machines, showerheads and more.
  • Solar Water Heater Subsidy
    The Sustainable Energy Development Office of the Government of Western Australia is offering rebates to householders who install environmentally friendly, gas-boosted solar water heaters.
