What are In-Slab tanks?

The In-slab Rain Reviva has been developed to cater for new houses built on concrete slabs where the owner does not want to see an ugly free standing tank in their back garden. It can be installed at the same time as the concrete is poured for the slab. This solution is ideal when you are using a waffle based slab as the In-slab tank replaces any number of the waffle pods you choose to replace. Each tank is 660 litres in size and you can fit as many as you like into the slab.

The In-Slab solution has been designed by engineers incorporating all the relevant requirements relating to strength, thermal and other issues. New Water also owns the patents for these solutions enabling our customers to access unique solutions even at the point of constructing their homes.

As the name suggests, the Rain Reviva In-slab tanks are incorporated into the slab at the time of construction. The unique design reduces the need for an expensive underground tank or a more traditional above ground tank by incorporating the tanks into the structure of the house.

How do the In-Slab tanks work?

They work by storing the captured rainwater under the dwelling in a number of interconnected tanks or ‘cells’. Water is collected by and distributed from the tanks to the various outlets around the home by a patented pump system.

The number of tanks incorporated into the slab is dependant on the amount of storage that you decide is necessary. Some slab types may have a bearing on the final capacity available.

Capturing 660 litres per unit the rigid tank acts as a replacement for a waffle pod. These tanks can be linked together to enable water storage in as many tanks as there are waffle pods.

What is the installation process?

The set-up and installation process ncompasses the following steps:

1. Scoping:

  • Establish quantity of storage – identify the volume of water required and divide by 660 giving the number of tanks required
  • New Water provide ‘foot print’ of plan for builder (including tank orientation)

2. Prior to pouring the slab:

  • Excavate slab ‘cut’ by additional 300mm in the plan areas identified by New Water.
  • Layout the tanks symmetrically within the waffle pod pattern as per the foot print plan provided by New Water (excavated area).
  • Connect the tanks together using the flexible connection pipes. Test with water.

3. Once the slab is cured:

  • Secure the external box, connect the pipe penetrations with flexible joints, secure the box with correct stable back-fill.

New Water will provide on-site consultation for the first installation undertaken by a builder to ensure a high quality outcome is achieved.
