The Grey Water Gator is designed to be a simple to use and easy to install unit to help you reuse and save waste water from your washing machine. The GWG can help you save up to 200 litres of water per day. The amount of water saved will depend on how many times you wash and what type of machine is used.
The GWG is a complete kit. It includes all the hoses and fittings to connect to the discharge hose of a standard washing machine back to the unit. There is no need to cut into existing plumbing. All the fittings are either O-Ring seal or have a washer to seal them. This means it can all be assembled by hand .This hose is especially flexible and is 25mm diameter to allow for full flow from the washing machine. The connection from the Gator hose to the washing machine hose has a simple hose clamp arrangement with a flat bladed screwdriver being the only tool necessary. A quick disconnect kit is available as an extra.
When the waste water enters the GWG it discharges directly into a filter assembly.
The filter has a two part action. First there is a .9mm Stainless steel flat screen filter to catch all the larger particles and then the water passes through a secondary filter sock. This sock is designed to catch most of the lint coming from the washing machine. The SS screen is easily removed for cleaning and the filter sock is also easily replaceable once it is full.
The water then is temporarily held in a Lilac wheelie bin of 240 litre capacity.
This particular unit was chosen because of its strength and colour compliance and because the base of the bin has locating lugs for the pump. It is fitted with a drain valve to ensure there is no residual grey water left in the unit.
The Pump in the GWG has been selected from over 15 other pump types and various brands and can easily handle the Waste Water from a washing machine. The pump is operated automatically via a float switch. As the water level rises in the GWG the float switches the pump on and as it empties the pump switches off. It has sufficient head to operate up to 100meters of dripper tube. The nominal flow rate out of 20metres of 20mm hose is 15litres/minute.Maximum recommended length of hose is 40meters.At this length the flow rate will be 10litres/minute.
The GWG comes with 20metres of 20mm lilac coloured hose. The hose is clearly marked “Reclaimed water–not for drinking”. All fittings and attachments come with the hose.
The GWG is perfectly suited to run 100 meters of 12mm drip tube. It is recommended to fit a final 25mm 120mesh filter to the outlet of the GWG when running a drip system.
