Land-leveling (land forming)

Most of the rice produced in Australia is already grown on levelled land. Land forming using laser levelling ensures the most efficient use of water.

In an unleveled field an extra 80 to 100mm of water may be required in the field to give complete water coverage. This can be an extra 10% of the total water requirement to grow the crop. High points which may hinder water flow and low points which may cause water to remain in the field are also removed through the process.

Around 95% of Australian rice farms have commenced land forming and half the farms have completed their program, providing farmers with more precise control over the flow of water on their land.
