Water quality monitoring: Dirranbandi

The quality of surface water varies over time and between locations, and may affect the suitability of the water for irrigation. For this reason it is important to monitor the quality of water used for irrigation. Over a six-week period, water quality at Dirranbandi was assessed for nutrient and salinity levels. Results showed that every on-farm water storage has different water quality.

Assessing water quality is important to discover if the water being used on crops is conducive or detrimental for growth and productivity. Poor water quality can affect the long-term sustainability of farming cotton in certain areas.
