Evaluating drip irrigation systems: Yambocully

Peter Cross, Corish Farms, Goondiwindi

To save water and produce higher crop yields drip irrigation was undertaken at Corish Farms as an alternative to flood irrigation. Drip irrigation used 35% to 40% less water than flood irrigation, and also resulted in higher yield (bales/ML), less crop stress, and lower labour costs. Despite its many advantages, there are high capital costs of installation and the system is not effective for all soil types.
