What is SmartGardenWatering?

Wondering how big a water tank you need or how much water you should give your garden this month based on the plants you have, how you water and the characteristics of your garden? SmartGardenWatering is a fun and informative way to find out about your gardens’ watering needs, rain tank performance, and make selections of plants. It’s easy to use, yet it is backed by a scientific watering model developed at the University of Melbourne, and uses a database of 1500 plants. Click on the START button – you can start modelling your garden now and return later to pick up where you left off…

Or maybe you want to explore other peoples gardens in your area and see what they have done? You can also check our Facebook page and post a question for another gardener to respond to.

The model was developed for use in metropolitan Melbourne and Geelong and it integrates best practice gardening research with social media tools. We think it is brilliant technology that everyone should see, if you are not from Melbourne and would like to use this in your area, drop us a line on the feedback button at the top right of the next page.

The SmartGardenWatering project was funded by the Victorian Smart Water Fund. Established in 2002, the Smart Water Fund invests in innovative water conservation, water recycling and biosolids management solutions throughout metropolitan and regional urban Victoria.
